Off you go now
"Off you go, Mama, you need your rest. You have a big day tomorrow," Chachi says adult-like with exuberance and a (palpable) undercurrent of pleading, motioning towards the door. Since when did having your wrists pinned down, your eyes and ears kissed and stomaching seemingly ceaseless proclamations of adoration become so unpalatable? What is so adorable about his attempts to have me vacate is that he'd sooner put up with all the smooching than tell me to cut it out and get out. Leading me to believe that he must love it after all. And so I was sure to promise him an encore tomorrow morning, first thing.... It's now 5 min later. All is quiet on the western front, and a tiny voice comes from the Chach's room. "Mama, where are you?" "Here, lovebug, in my room," I reply. "I love you, Mama," he says gently and quietly. LOVE. PURE.
Sachet Moseille
This would be the "wine" Portia served up in the shower tonight. Pronounced ever-so French. Not sure where she came up with the name, but it sounds the part. She smilingly imagined herself the server in a restaurant serving her Sachet Moseille (which, btw, not one member of the family comes even close to pronouncing correctly, according to Portia.) So I asked her if this were wine she was dividing among various plastic stemmed vessels. "Well, yes, it's wine, but it's actually also beer...you know, it's a little sparkly. That's why EVERYBODY wants it."

Chachi and his straw fedora
4 pm, Barney's. In walks my 7-year old. Over he walks to the stack of straw fedoras. Onto his little head one of them goes. Over he walks to the mirror, with a swagger, points at himself, and says: "Lookin' good muh man."
